Journey into the Abstract

Updated: Dec 18, 2024

Welcome to my world—a world where straight lines don’t matter, rules are optional, and creativity knows no bounds. I call it my Journey into the Abstract, a space where my mind and my ADHD work together to create something unexpected and, hopefully, beautiful.

Let me start by saying this: perfection is overrated. In my art, straight lines don’t matter because, well, they just don’t need to. I’ve learned to embrace the wobble, the curve, the places where the paint decides to have a mind of its own. Those “imperfections” are where the magic happens.

One of the coolest things about abstract art is that you can get creative with the tools you use. I’ll let you in on a little secret—I once used an old medicine bottle to make perfect circles in one of my paintings. I couldn’t get them all the same size, so I looked around my house (a.k.a., my kitchen counter) and thought, Why not? I find myself looking around for things to make the process more fun.

And let’s talk about colors. As you can see, I love colors! Whether it’s layering bold reds with calming blues or letting neon yellows crash into deep greens, I’m always amazed at how they interact and surprise me. Sometimes I’ll mix colors on a whim, and other times I’ll spend hours deciding on the perfect palette. Either way, colors are like my playground—they’re fun, they’re freeing, and they bring everything to life.

One of my favorite parts of creating abstract art is working with lines and layers. There’s something so freeing about letting a line wander across the canvas without any clear direction. Sometimes those lines transform into something recognizable. A wave, a tree, a path and other times, they’re just a bit crazy. It’s amazing how people see different things in the same piece of art. One person might look at a painting and see a serene landscape, while someone else sees a chaotic cityscape. Both are right, and that’s the beauty of it.

For me, abstract art isn’t just about making something that looks cool— it’s about expressing a part of myself that words can’t always capture. It’s messy, colorful, sometimes chaotic, but always honest.

So, if you’ve ever been curious about abstract art, my advice is simple: don’t overthink it. Forget the straight lines, grab whatever tools you have, and let the colors and shapes guide you. You might surprise yourself.

And hey, I’d love to see what you create! Snap a pic of your abstract work and DM it to me on social media. Who knows? I might just share it with my friends and followers. Let’s inspire each other and keep this creative journey going!
